Doc Redman has not even completed his sophomore season at Clemson, but he is getting a major jump start in his professional career by competing in the Masters.
The Raleigh native is the reigning U.S. Amateur champion. When he won that title in a playoff last year at Riviera, it gave him an automatic spot in the first major of 2018. But this isn't Redman's first event with the big boys of the PGA Tour. A couple of weeks ago, Redman made the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and that has given him a nice preview of the pressure he will be under in Augusta. Although, there is pressure and then there is the Masters. But Redman is confident his recent experiences will serve him well.
"I think I have a lot of experience at big stages, obviously not this but in front of people," Redman said.
"Really just drawing off Bay Hill, though. I think that was a huge experience booster me and I know what it's like out here."
Redman says he doesn't have any expectations about the week as he hopes to simply learn as much as he can. This will be Redman’s first appearance in the Masters, but he will be the eighth different current Clemson golfer to play in the tournament. The last current Clemson player to receive an invitation to the Masters was Corbin Mills in 2012.
