AUGUSTA, Ga. — Scottie Scheffler, the best golfer in the world, just won his second green jacket as the champion of the 2024 Masters in Augusta, Georgia.

But, how much money is he taking home to his wife, Meredith, and his soon-to-be-born first child?

A low score at the tournament in Augusta equals a high payout for the golfers playing. According to an article from USA Today, the purse for the Masters is $20 million, which is a $2 million increase from 2023 and a $5 million increase from 2022.

Since there is more money being handed out, the winner of this year's Masters will take home the highest winnings in the tournament's history. But it won't be all $20 million: Here's the full breakdown.

The winner of the tournament, which this year is Scheffler, claimed $3.6 million. The winner has earned at least $1 million ever since 2001, USA Today reports, and this will be the second time the Masters champion will get more than $3 million.

This adds to the more than $11 million Scheffler has already earned on the PGA Tour this year. He is the tour's top earner so far in 2024.

Second and third place will also get in the millions for their prize, with fourth through 36th-place getting six-figure prizes, and 37th- through 50th-place getting five-figure prizes. The remaining professionals who do not place in the top 50 will receive cash prizes from $49,200 and below based on their scores, according to a CBS article. Amateurs typically do not earn money to compete.
