USC has made a few trips to Charlotte but never for a bowl game. That's about to change.

USC has accepted an invitation to play in the Belk Bowl on Dec. 29 against Virginia.

The game will be played at Bank of America Stadium, where Carolina will be for its 2019 season opener against North Carolina, at noon on December 29, 2018.

The last time USC played in Charlotte was in the 2017 season opener against N.C. State.

South Carolina completed a 7-5 regular season with a 28-3 victory Saturday afternoon over Akron, a makeup game from the canceled Marshall contest earlier this season.

It is the third straight bowl appearance for the Gamecocks as head coach Will Muschamp has led his team to a bowl in all three of his seasons in Columbia.

Virginia is 7-5 and led by Bronco Mendenhall. The former BYU head coach won just two games in his first season in Charlottesville, but improved to six games last season and now seven.

South Carolina and Virginia last met in 2013, a 31-7 Gamecocks' win. The series record is 21-12-1 in favor of the Gamecocks.
