Highway Patrol investigating after off-duty SC deputies hurt in Memorial Day weekend crash

The crash happened around 6 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, officials said.

CLARENDON COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities say two deputies were injured on Sunday afternoon following an off-duty crash near Turbeville.

According to Clarendon County Sheriff Tim Baxley, the crash happened around 6 p.m. on Highway 378 east of Turbeville. Baxley said two of his deputies were traveling in their personal car when they were hit by another vehicle. 

Baxley said the deputies lost control of their vehicle, which flipped several times. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not available at the time.

Sheriff Baxley said one of the deputies is a K-9 officer, however, no K-9 was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Baxley said the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
