Travelers at CAE anxious to see family for Christmas

“I'm super excited. There’s just no words,” said traveler Debbie Cook.

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — Holiday travels became even more stressful for travelers on Friday after United Airlines and Delta Airlines cancelled hundreds of flights due to worker shortages caused by a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Travelers at Columbia Metropolitan airport didn't experience many problems and said they feel safe despite the rise in Covid-19 cases. They arrived at the airport today vaxxed, masked, and boosted.

“I'm a little nervous, but I feel fine. I’m fully vaccinated and I got my booster,” said Mario Cunningham.

With these steps being taken, concerns about omicron are minimal.

“I believe people will wear their mask and be vaccinated and keep their distance,” said Debbie Cook.

Travelers leaving the airport are getting a Christmas miracle-- stress free traveling.

"There's no cancellations, no changes, no delay, so actually everything is pretty smooth. I was pretty surprised about that," said Ushiokawai .

For international travelers like Aaron Wise, it's a different story as we waited on Covid-19 test results that will decide if he can fly to Canada.

“I'm super excited…. There’s no words,” said Cook.

"I'm just super excited, ya know," said Ushiokawai .

According to TSA, Wednesday was the biggest travel day as 2 million travelers were screened at airports nationwide. That number surpassed pre-pandemic levels of 1.9 million.
