Wind advisory is in effect today

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs may be blown down, and a few power outages may occur.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The showers and storms will end by the mid-morning hours. Skies will be partly cloudy this afternoon. High temperatures will be in the middle to upper 70s this afternoon. It will continue to be windy today and Friday. The weekend is forecast to be dry and turn very warm by Sunday afternoon.

A wind advisory is in effect for the Midlands until 8 p.m. South winds from 25 to 40 mph will be possible with some stronger gusts. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs may be blown down and a few power outages may occur. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

An isolated shower cannot be ruled out this afternoon as the cold front moves through the state. Temperatures will hit the middle to upper 70s later today.

It will remain windy Friday. Winds will be out of the west at 25 to 35 mph, with some stronger gusts. The skies will be mainly sunny. Highs will top out in the lower 70s as cooler, dry air moves in. A lake wind advisory will likely be issued for Friday.

Saturday will start off seasonably cool, with temperatures in the upper 40s.High temperatures Saturday afternoon will return to the middle 70s.

It will be even warmer Sunday as high pressure sets up. High temperatures will rebound into the middle 80s. The record high for Sunday is 90 degrees, set in 2006.

The very warm weather will continue into the workweek. Highs will be in the middle 80s Monday through Wednesday. More clouds are expected by the middle of the week. The chance for rain is very low.
