Clear bag requirement implemented in Lexington-Richland 5

Following the lead of many sports complexes, Lexington Richland Five has announced a clear bag requirement starting this fall.

District 5 of Lexington and Richland Counties has announced a new clear bag requirement that will go into effect this fall at athletic events.

Chief planning and administrative officer Dr. Michael Harris told us, "Clear bag requirement is an opportunity for us to ensure, or further ensure, the safety of our students, our staff and our general community.”

Dr. Harris says that after last August’s safety scare at a Dutch Fork Football game, they began implementing new security protocols, including metal detectors and random bag searches.

"That will be new for the fall 2019 and again it will be in addition to over and beyond, what we started on last year as it relates to safety measures," says Dr. Harris.

Approved bags for entry are 12 x 6 x 12 clear tote bags, one gallon resealable bags and small purses that are about the size of a hand.
