An I-26 crash involving 2 tractor-trailers, lumber and a minor fuel spill has cleared after causing gridlock in Lexington and Richland counties

Officials said the eastbound lanes were blocked for hours.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — A wreck and the mess left behind have been cleared from a major interstate route through the Columbia area - but not before clogging the roadway for hours.

Drivers on or near I-26 in Lexington County were advised to be patient after a crash involving two tractor-trailers and a load of lumber.

According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation's traffic maps, the crash happened on eastbound I-26 near Exit 113 in Lexington County, but the line of cars stalled by the crash stretched well into Richland County.

A spokesperson for Lexington County said one of the large trucks was carrying a load of lumber and reported a minor fuel leak, which the Lexington County Fire Service was handling. However, even as the crash was clearing, the cleanup that followed caused traffic delays to continue.
