19-year-old killed in after-prom party shooting in Orangeburg County

A woman at the scene told investigators that she was throwing a party for several teens after the Lake Marion High School prom.

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — Orangeburg County deputies are investigating after a teen was shot to death following an after-prom party near the town of Santee. 

The incident happened a little after 1 a.m. Saturday in the 800 block of Antioch Road. 

According to an incident report from the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Department, officers got a call of a shooting at that location. When they arrived they found a 17 year-old who was lying up against a car who said he'd been shot in the arm. A tourniquet had been put on his wound to help stop the bleeding. 

As they continued to look at the property they found a 19-year-old who was on the ground and didn't have a pulse. Paramedics confirmed the victim was dead when they arrived. 

A woman at the scene told investigators that she was throwing a party for several teens after the Lake Marion High School prom so they wouldn't be out on the streets. She told officers she was getting ready to shut the party down and told people to call their rides to get home.  She also said she'd turned the music of and said "go ahead and go home." 

The woman said as she was walking back into her home she heard multiple gun shots. 

The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office has not released any information about a possible suspect, but Orangeburg County Sheriff's Department Chief  Chandra Gibbs said solving it is a "high priority." 

The victim has not yet been identified by the coroner's office.
