RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Richland County deputies have arrested a man who they say killed one of his roommates while the man was sleeping.
Deputies announced they'd arrested 23-year-old Amadeo Lopez Castillo and charged him with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
According to the sheriff's department, at around 1 a.m. Tuesday, they got a call of a shooting in the 8500 block of Old Percival, which is near Interstate 20. When they arrived they found several people at the scene who told them the victim was sleeping in his home when another resident living there, Castillo, shot him.
Three other roommates also lived there. After the shooting, they said they restrained Castillo, took away his gun and didn't allow him to leave until law enforcement arrived.
Deputies said the victim, identified by Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford as 25-year-old Mario Montecinos Ramos, died at the scene. Castillo was taken into custody and transported over to the Richland County Detention Center. Investigators did not give any possible motive for the crime.
