Who Will Replace Hollings?

Several of South Carolina's high profile Democrats and Republicans are expressing interest in making a run for Washington.

Shortly after Senior Senator Fritz Hollings announced he would not seek an 8th term in office, two Democrats held press conferences to announce they are seriously considering entering the race. State Education Superintendent Inez Tenenbaum told reporters she was very interested in possibly running. Columbia Mayor Bob Coble also expressed some desire to join the race. Both said they'd have final decisions by Labor Day. Other Democrats to express interest, State Senator Tommy Moore, and Representative James Smith.On the Republican front, four men have hinted that they could run. Fourth District Congressman Jim DeMint, former State Attorney General Charlie Condon, Myrtle Beach Mayor Mark McBride, and Charleston developer Thomas Ravenel have all expressed interest in trying to take a Senate seat away from the Democrats in 2004.
