COLUMBIA, S.C. — A driver is facing a citation and a woman is recovering in the hospital after a crash that happened on Thursday in downtown Columbia.

The Columbia Police Department announced just after noon that the crash happened at the intersection of Blossom and Sumter streets. The woman who was hit was taken to the hospital and, initially, authorities didn't have an update on her condition.

Around 3:15 p.m., police confirmed that that the woman was "stable" following the crash. The driver has since been cited for failure to yield the right-of-way.

The crash happened in close proximity to the University of South Carolina.
