Columbia International University grad student dies in traffic accident on campus, officials say

Police believe the driver was going too fast, given the road conditions at the time.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A spokesperson for Columbia International University reports that a student has died following a traffic accident on the campus on Thursday morning.

According to the university, student Patricia Wolf died from injuries sustained after being hit by a vehicle as she was walking to class. The Columbia Police Department is investigating the crash.

Police said just before 8 a.m., a male driver hit a pedestrian, causing her to fall to the ground. Police said the driver got out to check on the victim and that she was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police believe the driver was going too fast, given the conditions at that time.

Wolf was a graduate student at the university's School of Counselling.

"The student body, faculty and staff are praying for Wolfe's family and others involved in the accident," the university said in a statement.

President Dr. Bill Jones said in the statement that counseling is available for anyone at the university in need of it.
